There’s something uniquely beautiful about a beach themed wedding. The sky, the sea and the spectacular scenery can all change from minute to minute, presenting some huge challenges and some stunning backdrops for your wedding photos!
Site your marquee for maximum effect
When you’re choosing the venue for your beach wedding, ensure that you can site your marquee to take the best possible advantage of the view. There’s no point picking a wedding venue with superb scenery and then not being able to view it when you’re enjoying the reception. Choosing a marquee with panoramic windows and/or a clear roof will maximise the drama of the backdrop, bringing the outdoors inside.
Pay attention to detail
It’s the little things that help to make any wedding memorable, so providing sunscreen, hats and a bucket of flip flops for your guests are all gestures that will be appreciated. If the weather is set to be warm, why not provide fans on every table? And don’t forget some fleece blankets in appropriate colours so guests can enjoy the sea air when evening falls.
Decorating with a seaside theme
One of the joys of a beach wedding is that Mother Nature does so much of the work for you. However, it’s a brave couple who invite their guests to sit at plain chairs and tables! If you love all the fun of the fair, then opt for sticks of rock as favours and take your cue from their candy colours. Provide deckchairs for outdoor seating, use deckchair fabrics and colours for table runners and bunting and use huge bunches of sunflowers for your centrepieces.
Prefer something a little more natural? Then take your cue from the bleached out colours of the beach and the natural tones of sand, coral and driftwood. Large bean bags in neutral colours provide laid back seating, while bunches of sea holly make unusual table centrepieces. Use a surfboard for your seating plan and don’t forget the fairy lights when evening arrives.
• Check the tide table: make sure the tide isn’t rushing in as you exchange vows or have your first dance as the noise of the seawater can drown out everything else
• Pick a marquee with a large canopy to create a shaded seating area for guests
• Avoid holding your celebrations in the heat of the day – early morning or later in the afternoon will be more comfortable
• Provide a de-sanding station so guests don’t find grains in their shoes for weeks afterwards!
